Many who have worked in food service retail such as at a cafe or bakery have experienced the gut-punch of throwing away perfectly good food at the end of a night because there isn’t a sustainable way to get it to a food bank. 10% of people in Vancouver say they have struggled to afford healthy food during the pandemic, meanwhile, 60% of the food produced in Canada gets thrown away. Vancouver Food Runners has revolutionized addressing food waste with an app that allows them to easily manage 1500 volunteers. Watch the video to get the full story.
Protesters hope public pressure will influence world leaders at COP26
The International Institute for Sustainable Development says Canada spends 4.8Billion on Fossil Fuel subsidies. These are tax incentives for the oil and gas industry. Extinction Rebellion would like to see the government end these tax-payer funded subsidies.

The Last of the Giants: the story of the Fairy Creek blockade
In August 2020, Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones asked for the public’s support to protect one of the last old-growth stands in BC that happens to be within his people’s ancestral territory.
Since then, land defenders have held a blockade in southwestern Vancouver Island at the entrance to the Fairy Creek watershed.
On April 1st Teal Jones Cedar successfully won an injunction against the land defenders in the BC Supreme Court. Get the full story here.
First Poppy Ceremony launches fundraising campaign with "lofty goals"
North Shore District Mayor Mike Little had the honour of receiving the First Poppy from 114th Legion President Diana Saboe on Monday night. The ceremony took place at the North Shore District's City Council meeting and kicks off fundraising season for Remembrance Day.
According to Saboe, this year, the legion is aiming for a record-breaking fundraising year: “This year, as it is the 100th anniversary, we are setting a lofty goal of raising $100,000.” Said Saboe.
